SOS Children’s Villages of Sri Lanka

A Brief Description

SOS Children’s Villages Sri Lanka is a non-governmental, social development organisation taking action for children at risk. Every child needs a loving home to flourish in, and we have helped families achieve this in Sri Lanka since 1979.

In the past thirty years, over eight hundred, girls and boys, have successfully integrated into the society through employment and marriage. Today there are nearly seven hundred young children and youth being cared for in the SOS Families in the 5 SOS Children’s Villages in Piliyandala, Nuwara Eliya, Galle , Anuradhapura and Monaragala.

Over five thousand children youth and adults from the neighbouring areas of the SOS Children's Villages are direct beneficiaries of our various programmes – SOS Kindergartens, SOS Medical Centres, SOS Family Strengthening Programme, SOS Vocational Training Centres and SOS Hermann Gmeiner School.

In 2009, we were also able to take action for unaccompanied children in the IDP Camps in the North. Nearly 200 such children and youth are provided care at the Manik Farm Relief Village, Cheddikulem. We are now in the process of establishing the 6th SOS Children's Village in Sri Lanka in Jaffna which will be HOME for the children at the SOS Temporary Care Project and for many children in the North who are at risk due to losing their families.

All this has been possible with the kind and generous donations from kind hearted people who have the interest of the children in their hearts! Would you like to contribute to make a change in a needy child’s life? All it takes is a YES!
